Though the movie started with a car chase, I felt that for most part of the first half the movie was a little flat. The car chase scenes did looked like Fast and the Furious-y but I felt like there was something missing that I couldn’t seem to figure out. Ansel’s character in the movie doesn’t talk much but when he’s with Lily James (as Debora) he turns into one smooth talking Casanova. I also thought I was watching a musical with Ansel dancing around and lip-synching old songs occasionally in a good way.
I understand that Baby was just forced into driving the getaway car and despises violence but when it already involves his family and love one’s he has no other choice but to result into that one thing he’d swear he’ll never become. In the end, he chooses what he knows is right.
Overall the movie is quite enjoyable from the part when Baby creates music from recorded tape conversations, which I must say is very creative, to the part where Baby and his foster dad had conversations, though there were no sounds that can be heard one can sincerely feel the concern one has for the other. It was also amusing how he manage to have tons of extra pairs of sunglasses in his jacket. How many iPods does he have by the way? I guess earbuds are a fashion statement nowadays, huh?
