Star Wars: The Last Jedi | May The Force Be With You

Image
Frankly speaking, I've never really seen the any Star Wars movie previously. Though I have seen some of them in passing during bus rides but never really finished one. This would be the first of the franchise that I watched in full and inside a theater. I have minimal background about the FORCE and the characters involved but that did not hinder me to enjoy the movie. The movie feels like a stand-alone movie as I was able to understand how things are connected with each other, maybe it's because the FORCE was awakened in me or something. If I'm not mistaken, this is the third generation of the intergalactic characters? Even so, the movie still has it's charms. The sarcasm of some of the characters are so amusing. Though the movie has a lot of quiet moments, it still makes me gasp in awe. I see why this franchise has a lot of following over the years. Seen the movie? Let me know what you think by commenting below. May the FORCE be always with you!

Unexpectedly Yours | Unexpected and Entertaining

Image
Photo taken from Wikipedia To be honest, this movie was not on my list to watch thinking that this has the same old formula a normal rom-com is made of. But this movie proved me wrong by giving me so much feels and self actualization at the end. The movie is top-billed by the iconic pair of Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla which still, to my surprise, the pair still has the charms that works. Joshua Garcia and Julia Baretto also add to the movie's effectiveness even on the sidelines. The movie has many facets that every part of the society can relate to. There is the concept of a mother trying to cope up with the every changing millenial generation, the story of how much social pressure affects a person, the undying first love, the struggles of our overseas Filipino workers and the difference of online and offline interactions with the new generations.  The #ShaBin pair still has this chemistry that would make the other love teams admire them more. The story is...

Justice League | A Shot At Redemption

Image
Photo taken from iMDB Happy Monday guys! Last weekend I was able to catch one of the most anticipated movies this November which comes from the DC Universe. The Justice League movie was fronted by Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. The team was formed because of the looming threat of the world's destruction by an alien invader.  I think Warner Bros is slowly veering away with the dark tones as seen on the previous Batman movies and inserting more comic relief with this movie which, in my opinion, is a nice thing. But it still lacks character development arcs within the movie. The movie still lacks that 'umph' to boost it into a more enjoyable film. Certainly, The Flash is a breath of fresh air but the effort is still not enough. Watching it on IMAX certainly did not help in any way. Though the Marvel-style post credit scene made me more excited with Lex Luthor and Wade Wilson teaming up. I'm curious what the two had planned. If you have ...

THOR : Ragnarok | Hela-riously Fun Without Even Trying

Image
It's the second day of screening of Thor: Ragnarok today in the Philippines and since I was a bit stressed at work I decided to treat myself. I know it's not payday yet but even with my dwindling resources I marched to the ticket booth and asked for a ticket. Lo and behold I walked away from the booth with an IMAX ticket (so much for being frugal). I bought the IMAX one because SM Cinema (in Clark) is offering 100 pesos off Thor: Ragnarok's IMAX tickets, so why not take it. This installment is mainly about the prophecy of Ragnarok or the destruction of Asgard. Of course would not let that happen, right? But then Hela the Goddess of Death came along and destroyed Thor's Mighty Hammer. What's worse was he got thrown into a planet where he became gladiator/slave and meets a friend of his who is green all over (and I am not talking about Shrek here). So the question for those who haven't seen the movie is can Thor save his beloved Asgard? Well you will ...

GEOSTORM : Control the Weather, Control the World!

Image
photo taken from imdb.com I admit, I am a big fan of movies featuring natural or induced worldwide catastrophes. Climate related movies appeal to me as I would like to see how people make decisions when everything looks impossible especially with the impending doom drawing near. Would people set aside their moral values in order to survive? Or would they stick to what is right whatever the odds? I got excited when I saw the trailer of Geostorm for the first time and I got to see it today. I honestly was a bit disappointed with how the movie went as I was looking for real human reactions in the face of a storm rather than a geo-political conspiracy to hold on to power. It would be great if we can control the weather for the greater good but what we can't control are the bad intentions of some just to get the upper hand. I expected that the movie would draw sympathetic emotions from me especially after the storms passed and how survivors would get back up to bui...

Last Night | A Ghostly Love Story

Image
Poster taken from Star Cinema Website Hey guys, I have to apologize if I have not been blogging for a long time. I had a lot of good things going on lately that takes my time off writing for you guys. Anyway, I had the chance to watch " Last Night " with my friends at SM Clark last Saturday (September 30, 2017). This stars Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga and was written by actress Bela Padilla and directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal . The movie starts of with Piolo standing on the ledge of the Jones Bridge with the attempt to jump off and probably end his life but he saw Toni asking for help which foiled his plans. They would later on plan on continuing their attempt at ending their life because of their own reasons. They brainstorm about dramatic ways to die and they agreed of doing this together. Piolo then develop a feeling with Toni's character that holds him back from the plan they originally concocted. Only for Piolo's character to find out that he has be...

Annabelle: Creation | Origins of Creepy Horror

Image
Photo from imdb website Hey guys! Sorry if I have not had an entry lately as I have been busy being an adult. LOL! Anyway, here is my first horror movie entry for my blog. Honestly, I am not a fan of horror movies as I cringe every time there is a horrific suspense scenes. I was just glad that the cinema was packed with movie-goers that their reactions make me laughed and distracted me from the horrors on the screen. I think we all know Annabelle ; the doll that has evil connections and first appeared in the movie "The Conjuring" . Since the doll got the audience terrified, she got her solo movie titled "Annabelle" . Now, the origins of the demonic doll has been further explored in "Annabelle: Creation".  The doll was made by Samuel Mullin in 1943. After his daughter died in a road accident, he and his wife Esther did everything to connect with their daughter's spirit. That was how the doll became a conduit for the evil spirit but the ...

AWOL | An Exhilarating Search for Vengeance and Justice

Image
Hey there movie buffs! So the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino officially kicks off today in cinemas nationwide. Have you visited the theaters today and watched quality films included in the festival? Well I have and was able to watch AWOL, one of the entries from Skylight Films and Cinemabro. The movie stars Gerald Anderson as a military soldier gone rogue in order to keep his family safe. The story might be a little formulaic but the way that it was skillfully executed on screen making it enjoyable to watch. The movie gives us a glimpse of what our soldiers sacrifice to be of service to the country. It describes how strong the brotherhood between soldiers are as tight as family ties and how they keep their vows to serve and protect the country and the people. It is one thrilling and action-packed film that is worthy to be seen on screen.  Not sure if it was just me or because Gerald Anderson was top-billing the movie but it almost have a little "On The Job...

Baby Driver | A High Octane Musical Love Story

Image
Movie Poster from IMDB Hi guys, this is my second entry for my movie blog and the first foreign film that I will be giving my reactions to. The movie premiered yesterday  August 2, 2017 here in Angeles City but I just got the chance to watched it today since it was raining crazily yesterday. So “Baby Driver” is a movie about a teenage boy who had a traumatic childhood accident which caused a permanent humming sound on his ears. He got entangled with a crime syndicate and serves as the group’s getaway car driver. But there is one catch, he must listen to loud music to help him focus while doing ridiculous drifts and stunts while being chased by law enforcement. Cinema Ticket Though the movie started with a car chase, I felt that for most part of the first half the movie was a little flat. The car chase scenes did looked like Fast and the Furious-y but I felt like there was something missing that I couldn’t seem to figure out. Ansel’s character in the movie doesn’t talk m...

Kita Kita | Entertainingly Heartbreaking

Image
Hi, I’m Josh; a moviegoer. I usually voice out my criticisms on movies I watched with my friends over a cup of coffee or while dining out. This is my first time blogging about movies and I choose Kita Kita (I See You) as my first attempt to express my thoughts about movies. A great movie, for me, should have a great story, have excellent story telling and should make me feel satisfied in way. By the way, I have little knowledge of the technical stuff that goes on the background of film making so my thoughts and reactions will be based solely on how I felt for the movie as a common movie buff. “Kung kailan nawala ang paningin mo saka mo lang ako napansin…” or something to that effect. I went to the cinema to watch this movie alone on July 24, 2017 and I’m happy I did. At least I won’t have to hide my tears especially during the music-video type ending of the movie that I guess made the whole theater silent with occasional sobs from nearby seats. Even though I have watched the ...
